ok besides the GD Movie, I believe that Truckin up to Buffalo and Downhill from Here are the two best in terms of performance. They both feature the Dead in one of their hottest months ever, July 89. Buffalo in particular is really good quality footage, however Garcia's playing is just so inspired and smoking through both shows.

IMO the Closing of Winterland is an average 78 show, my favorite sequence on there is the Dark Star through Wharf Rat. I think Wharf Rat is one of the best of the year and the vocals, playing and lighting really set the mood for the song. Dark Star is just great because it hadnt been played in 4 years and its a pretty good version. The best part of the show is the 3rd disk IMO.

my next two favorites would be the 87 NYE disk (funny features on there) and View from the Vault 4 which is Oakland/Anaheim 87

my favorites correspond with the reviewer above me..

first is the GD movie... its just wonderful. i love how the put in the footage where they do... like the wall of sound.. when GDTRFB starts up they show the trucks hauling the wall of sound down the road... about to feel bad about unloading them and setting it up. theres a lot of good audience footage... the ppl footage on truckin is nice.. its cool.. its sort of embodied the experience of a show for me, since i have never been to one. the bonus footage was aaaawesome.. loved the other one with the spanish jam

second is closing of winterland..
i didnt feel like jerry was putting out his best.. but the show kicks up on scarlet fire, falls, and then IMO kicks back up again during stagger lee. The sugar mag opener was pretty sweet :) bobbys vocals are a fun sight to see and they make the band laugh a lot.

then these are in no particular order but

dead ahead (expanded) dvd: really cool to see some acoustic dead... the crowd shits their pants during ripple, bird song was aaawesome... umm.. the fire on the mountain was great.. cool to see an early brent show (looking like skeletor, mind you)

Vault IV..... That cassidy jam was great to see on video (of what you can see) the jack straw and half step are wonderful... and so is the anaheim show.. the new minglewood was fantastic! i really loved this DVD a lot.. i think i like it better than dead ahead :X

NYE 87' i keep watching it and everytime i do i like it more and more.. the other one is cool, brent throws some nice diminished? or augmented riffs into it

truckin up to buffalo and downhill from here: not much to review.. its just fantastic. just fantastic
